Kotor is just 35 minutes from Budva — and the Bay of Kotor is one of the Adriatic's most dramatic boat tour destinations.
VIEW TOURS & BOOKBudva is Montenegro's most popular beach resort — but the Bay of Kotor, just 35 kilometres to the north, offers a very different kind of experience. Where Budva is open Adriatic beaches and nightlife, Kotor Bay is enclosed fjord-like waters, medieval villages, and dramatic limestone mountains rising straight from the sea.
Boka Boat Tours operates private and group speedboat tours departing daily from Park Slobode pier in Kotor Old Town. The most popular day trip from Budva combines a morning walk around Kotor's UNESCO-listed Old Town, followed by a 3-hour boat tour to the Blue Cave, Our Lady of the Rocks, and Mamula Island.
The journey is straightforward. Three transport options:
| Option | Journey Time | Cost (one way) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bus | ~45 min | €2–3 | Departs every 30–60 min from Budva bus station. Drop off at Kotor bus station (10 min walk to pier). |
| Taxi / Transfer | 35–40 min | ~€15–25 | Arranged from your hotel. Most reliable for early departures. |
| Rental Car | 35 min | Variable | Parking at Kotor Old Town costs ~€1–2/hour. Paid car parks near the city walls. |
Departure point: All Boka Boat Tours depart from Park Slobode pier, a 2-minute walk from Kotor's main city gate (Vrata od Mora). GPS: 42.4264, 18.7678.
The most popular choice for day-trippers from Budva. The shared speedboat departs at 09:00, 12:00, or 15:00. You visit the Blue Cave (swim inside on calm days), Our Lady of the Rocks island chapel, and return via Perast. Perfect if you're travelling solo or as a couple on a budget.
A shorter option if you're combining the boat tour with sightseeing in Kotor Old Town. Departures at 12:00 and 15:00. Visits Our Lady of the Rocks and the baroque village of Perast.
If you're travelling as a family or group, a private boat gives you the entire vessel, flexible departure times, and the option to swim inside the Blue Cave. Prices start at €120 for the Our Lady & Perast 1.5h tour and €240 for the Blue Cave & Our Lady 3h tour.
A well-paced day from Budva combining Kotor and a boat tour:
If you prefer a morning tour (09:00 departure), take an earlier bus (~07:30) and go straight to the pier, then explore Kotor Old Town on your return.
Very different. Budva faces the open Adriatic — wide sandy beaches, turquoise water, summer crowds. The Bay of Kotor is an enclosed bay, surrounded by mountains up to 1,700 metres high. The water is calmer, the scenery more dramatic. The Blue Cave, Our Lady of the Rocks, and Mamula Island are all inside the bay — inaccessible except by boat, and unlike anything else on the Montenegrin coast.
Yes — group tours can sell out, especially July and August. Book at least 1–2 days ahead online at bokaboattours.com. We confirm within 2 hours by WhatsApp.
For a 12:00 tour: catch the 10:30 or 11:00 bus from Budva (journey ~45 min). For a 09:00 tour: catch the 07:30–08:00 bus. Buses depart from Budva's main bus station near the market.
Yes. On private tours, you can swim inside the Blue Cave when sea conditions allow. On group and private tours, there are swimming stops in the bay. Bring swimwear and a towel.
All tours include: speedboat, licensed captain, life jackets, snorkeling equipment, and a cooler. Note: Our Lady of the Rocks island entry fee (€5 adults, €2.50 ages 7–14) is NOT included in group tours.
We offer complimentary pickup from private jetties along the Bay of Kotor coastline on private tours. Budva is on the open Adriatic and not directly accessible this way — guests from Budva travel to Kotor's Park Slobode pier independently.
From Budva, Kotor is 35 minutes away. Daily departures, group from €25 · private from €120.
