Our Lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela) is an artificial island in the Bay of Kotor, created by Perast fishermen starting in 1452. According to legend, two sailors found an icon of the Virgin Mary on a reef and, over the following centuries, locals would throw stones and sunken ships onto the reef to build up an island.
The baroque church on the island, completed in the 17th century, houses 68 paintings by Venetian and local masters, an embroidered icon, and a collection of votive tablets left by sailors.
The church is open to visitors and entry costs €5 per adult — €2.50 for ages 7–14, free under 7 — payable in cash on the island. Photography is permitted inside. When visiting, please dress modestly — swimwear must be covered with a t-shirt and shorts out of respect for the religious site.
Our Lady of the Rocks is located just off the shore of Perast, about 20–25 minutes by speedboat from Kotor. It is included in most of our tours — the Blue Cave & Our Lady Private Tour, the Our Lady & Perast Classic, and the Hidden Gems of Kotor tour.
