Blue Cave Tour from Kotor — What to Expect

The Blue Cave (Plava Špilja) is located on the outer Adriatic coast, approximately 45–60 minutes by speedboat from Kotor Old Town. The cave is not accessible by road — the only way to visit is by boat, and the only way to experience it properly is to swim inside.

Our Blue Cave tour from Kotor typically combines the cave with Our Lady of the Rocks and an optional stop at Mamula Island — three of the most iconic destinations in Montenegro in a single 3-hour private tour.

The Blue Cave Experience

The cave's characteristic turquoise-blue glow is created by sunlight refracting through a submerged opening in the cave floor. Between approximately 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM, the light enters at the perfect angle and fills the entire interior with luminescence. Our captains time departures to maximise your time inside during this window.

On calm days, guests can swim freely inside the cave. The water is clear to the bottom at 4–6 metres depth, and the temperature is ideal from late May through September.

Route: Kotor to Blue Cave

We depart from Park Slobode, Kotor Old Town, and travel south through the inner bay past the Verige strait. Exiting into open water near Herceg Novi, we follow the coast to the cave. The return journey typically includes a stop at Our Lady of the Rocks in Perast.

Private tours can be booked via the form on our website or by WhatsApp. No deposit required — payment in cash on the day. For the best cave experience, we recommend booking a morning departure (9:00–10:00 AM) from Monday to Friday when crowds are minimal.
